Imagine Church doesn't exist... yet.
We're currently reimagining what church could look like in Northwest Arkansas.
We're imagining a community at which Jesus is the center, where boundaries aren't drawn only around those who adhere to a particular set of beliefs and behaviors, but where anyone who is curious about Christ is welcome.
We're imagining weekend gatherings with life-giving messages and communion that is open to all.
We imagine meeting wherever we can – homes, third spaces, and perhaps even “church” buildings.
We're imagining a church that rejects harmful and toxic theology and ideologies, that works against extremism and polarization, that talks politics when it comes to providing for human flourishing but avoids arguments over partisan political matters - a church that never swears allegiance to any human political leader.
We imagine resisting the hectic race happening all around us, slowing the pace, and walking in the unforced rhythms of grace.
We're imagining ways to include people from every ethnic and socioeconomic background, where everybody will matter. We imagine representing our community’s rich diversity by including people who are young, old, and middle-aged; married, single, and divorced; able and disabled; American-born, immigrant, or refugee.
We imagine welcoming people with little faith, broken faith, or no faith at all.
People will ask big questions. We won’t always have answers, but we imagine bravely making room for the hard and awkward conversations while remembering that people are to be loved, not controlled.
We're imagining what it looks like to contribute to the flourishing of other people in our community. We're imagining ways to partner with local organizations doing great work rather than trying to pioneer everything ourselves.
We imagine a church that champions the cause of the oppressed, marginalized, and disenfranchised.
We imagine being courageous shepherds, protecting sheep from wolves and the innocent from abusers.
We imagine following the leading of God’s Spirit together as we pray and exercise our faith.
We imagine caring less about getting bigger and more about inviting others into a movement that can grow larger and go smaller at the same time.
We imagine doing for the one what we wish we could do for the many.
We won’t have to look cool. There are no celebrities here. But we do imagine sharing stories that will reflect the power of the gospel to change lives.
Instead of seeking power over people, we imagine empowering people.
We imagine we'll be sharing more of the vision soon.
